The estate and its history

A quality terroir

The estate's vineyards are located on the slopes of Poligny, in the "Les Roussots" and "Les Grands Roussots" plots. The subsoil is composed of sandstone and layered schistous clay, as well as limestone and Lias marl. These geological elements explain the planting choices for the different grape varieties typical of the Jura region: Savagnin, Trousseau, Poulsard, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Savagnin and Poulsard express themselves elegantly on blue marl, Trousseau and Pinot Noir on red marl, and Chardonnay on layered clay: each grape variety receives the utmost attention to enhance the terroir from which it originates.

A family story

The archives of Poligny town hall attest to the Badoz family's dedication to cultivating the vineyards, generation after generation. Each generation has contributed to the family legacy, from the founder Richard in 1659, to grandfather Pierre in the mid-20th century, a skilled handyman and tireless worker, to Bernard, co-founder in 1997 of the renowned Percée du Vin Jaune. This passion for vines and wine, spanning ten generations, has never wavered and continues through Benoît's commitment to quality viticulture and to the AOCs (Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée) that defend their identity and their place among the world's finest wine regions.

Our cellars

The Domaine produces its Vin Jaune, Vin de Paille, and Tradition cuvées (a blend of Chardonnay and Savagnin), as well as the Arrogance (topped-up Chardonnay) and Edouard (topped-up Savagnin) cuvées, in stone cellars located underground in the heart of Poligny. These cellars allow for slow and differentiated aging of the barrels according to their freshness, humidity, and temperature variations, which gives the wines complexity and personality. The origin of the oak (Jura, Tronçais, Nièvre, etc.), crafted by the finest French cooperages, guides the selection of barrels for aging each cuvée, in order to obtain the best aromatic expression of the wines. Each barrel must contribute its very best to the wine for optimal and controlled maturation.
